“Written by an accomplished and highly regarded author, the warring emotions of devotion, love, grief, and raw anger that emanate from the pages of Undesirable are a poignant reminder of the collateral damage that’s suffered by the families of service members who go to war.”

I will be doing a VB event on Veteran’s Day, November 11. Hope to see you then.
I finally have my much anticipated copy and am devouring it for reasons you can likely guess, My Dear. Ironically, Doug landed in-country the same month and year I was exiting, June of ’69. Also ironically I was stationed in that very same sprawling Camp Radcliff, An Khe VN Central highlands, which was anything but a so called “pacified area”. However my VN experience could not possibly have been more different from his, and clearly illustrates the key role that happenstance and just plain luck can play in our lives. It also illustrates the role of key decisions made in passion and haste and regretted for a lifetime, deeply affecting countless other people close to us. I’ve just begun the book but can already tell it’s the story of a profound tragedy of great promise crashing to pieces on the rocks of military indifference, injustice, and downright stupidity. Douglas was desperately crying for help then and I truly believe in today’s army (at least pre-Trump/Hegseth) he would have gotten it, not jail time and a ruined future.
Dear Bill,
Please do email me after you finish the book I am esp. interested in yr take on An Khe and what it was like there. Also, you were older than Doug and so better grounded in the first place. I look forward to hearing from you, dear friend.
My book arrived today!
Excellent! Please do let me know when you’ve read it.
